Looks Like We Started Something! - Disneyland ’86. I’ve heard a story about how some cast members altered the slogan to “Looks like we stepped in something”! The graphic of Mickey does look like he is about to step on “something”. This Golden Passport is on thick paper and almost feels like a real “Golden Ticket”, OK maybe not, but it shines pretty.






Looks like we’ve got a Complimentary ticket here, NOT FOR SALE, nothing to see here, keep moving. Interesting that this passport may not be used on the day it was issued, but otherwise appears to never expire. I suppose the missing stub portion could have an expiration date, something else I need to find out!






Here’s the colorful cover to a press package for the big “something” promotion (what did they start, Something to Celebrate maybe?) The press kit is missing the information sheets, which is too bad, they are always fun to read. I have more from other years, stay tuned.






The press kit does include the great black & white press photos. All kinds of wonderful things coming to the Magic Kingdom in ’86; Captain EO would come in September and Star Tours would wait until January 1987.






“The prizes keep coming” They gave away a 1986 Firebird everyday thru May 31st! That a lot of Birds! Hey, that family of five is going to have to leave one of those kids at Disneyland, Firebirds only seat four. I say leave the little girl with the fashion violation suspenders!






As stiff and uncomfortable as the Country Bears look I’d take them back even dressed up like this.






Same for Videopolis, I’d take it back too; everyone get their Guess jeans ready, let’s evict the little princess’s.






Hey, Disneyland can use this same photo and text next year, just change the dates.






Circus Fantasy. There was a reason Walt got rid of the Circus at his park, why did they try to bring it back?

Welcome back to Magazine Monday's. Starting back up with a repeat post from April 2008, this post consistently gets in the top five "most popular page" hits for my old posts on this blog. Since people seem to want it, here it is again.

Here’s a lavishly well done article all about Walt Disney and Disneyland. This article is from the August 1963 Edition of National Geographic. There is a much smaller article from the October 1962 Edition, but it’s only two pages, I’ll post that another time.

This article is HUGE, 50 pages! Including a three page fold out map of the park. And on the reverse side a nice three page panorama shot of the Rivers of America. Today's post will have just a few pages, but please download the entire article in high resolution PDF format if you have a chance:

I sure like this cover; to me, it feels like “Camelot” at its peak, America’s innocence still not lost.

This map has a neat look to it. “J.E. Barrett – Staff Artist” I am guessing this artist was with the magazine? I don’t recall seeing art like this on other Disney material of the time. High resolution version of the map here: 1963 Disneyland Map (10mb)

This is really a fine and detailed article with great photo's and layout work.









Please read this last page, some fascinating stuff here. The “One Nation Under God” show with the “Hall of Presidents”, references to the French Quarter Square in old New Orleans, the Haunted Mansion under construction in Frontierland!

But most of all read the last few paragraphs were Walt discusses his mortality; it gave me goose bumps…

Disneyland 2-day Passport - September 4, 1993

Time to take a trip to the park 16 years ago today. This Disneyland 2-Day Passport was used on September 4th and 5th 1993. Supplied by the Walt Disney Travel Company, it feels like it was printed on an index card.






Looks like the 2-Days did not have to be consecutive.






This Early Admission ticket was stapled to the passport. “Not” * “Non” * “Not” * “Non” *“Not”, well ok then…






Too much to read, here’s the short version; this ticket gets you in Disneyland an hour before it opens, have fun and there's no food!






And here’s your “Disneyland Today" brochure for the week of September 1-6 1993. Go Mighty Ducks!






$30 for a 1-day Adult passport seems cheap now doesn’t it? The $75 3-day passport cost just a few bucks more than the current one day ticket!






This entertainment schedule looks like it was done at a local Jr. High School print shop. Yawn…

Club Membership Cards - 1971

Here's a fun look at a few "Club" discount cards from 1971. Just like Disneyland had its Magic Kingdom Club other parks had their own clubs as well.

Up first a multi-use card for Movieland Wax Museum, Japanese Village and the Palace of Living Art (?) offering a 10% discount.








Knott's Berry Farm had the "Prospector's Club" (later to become the "Adventures Club") that offered special "Pac-o-fun" ticket books.







Lion Country Safari offered a "special value" for its club members.

Convertibles not permitted.... Why would you even try that?

And last but not least, the Magic Mountain Club also offers its members a 10% discount.

Disneyland Convention Value - 1984

Since I'm in a convention mood, here's an exclusive Disneyland Convention Value certificate. Dated 1984, the prices have been manually updated so maybe this is from 1985? CASH only!




This special Convention Certificate is not on globe paper, it kind of looks like basic "Deluxe" check stock.

Good News from Disneyland - August 1967

There’s Good News from Disneyland (no not Spiderman weds Tinkerbell) from the Delegates of the Southern California College – Costa Mesa, California.

There must have been a convention in late August of 1967 for the Socal College folks. This mini poster promises a “Special Disneyland Ticket Value” It’s the “Disneyland Convention Exclusive. This all sounds great, but what exactly does my discount consist of?





Speaking of conventions, how many local and non-locals are planning to attend the D23 Expo? (Gasp - my first D23 reference on this blog) I think I'll check out at least one of the days. Something about paying to hear Bob, John and Jay talk seems altogether wrong; shouldn’t they be paying me to listen to them? Oh well, its sounds like lots will be happening and some neat stuff to be announced (from Miceage);

* Mr. Lincolns enhanced return – I can’t wait!!

* “Tony Baxter is looking forward to adding back a lot of the animatronic wildlife and storytelling drama that has slowly been removed from Frontierland over the last two decades”. – Can it get any better!!!
