Bonus Sunday

Welcome to Bonus Sunday. From Wednesday’s 1966 post (link) here is the complete issue of “The Disney World” from November 1966.

As you can see in this un-credited photo, it appears that this issue of The Disney World was on Walt’s desk on that sad day in December 1966.

A few select articles. Please download the entire issue, this is a fascinating look at Walt’s “Disney Company” as it was juggling so many cool projects at once.

The back cover is pure 1966 Holiday goodness...

Here’s a little story about Fred MacMurray appearing in an upcoming Popular Mechanics article about building a Walt Disney Christmas Tree.

Does this blogger happen to have that December 1966 issue of Popular Mechanics? Of course! Come back tomorrow for a look inside.

Universal Studios Snapshot Print Pak - 1980

How about a Mirro-Krome look at Universal Studios in 1980? These are a fun look at the studios back when the focus was still on the tour.

"By your command" - Cylon Warriors have invaded the studio tour. Here's a great video of the attraction (link). I used to love the Stunt Show (the quicksand was my favorite part) do they still have the show?

Is that the Clock tower building from back to the Future? The parting of the red sea looks fairly convincing in this photo!

Where is Steve Austin when you need him? Wait, the Jamie Summers should be crossing that bridge any second (link).

I believe that’s Muffit II, the robot daggit (dog) created to replace a real daggit that gets killed in the Battlestar Galactica series. That always made me sad about the real dog getting killed by those Cylon bastards! Not sure who the bird talking on the phone is?

Tokyo Disneyland 1989 Starlight Passport & 1985 Guide Book

Let’s take a look at another “Disneyland” this one is in Tokyo. This “Starlight Passport” is from 1989. Only good during “Starlight Hours”. Nice graphics on safety style paper.

This “sample” ticket was only ¥3,100, I wonder how much that was in 1989 US dollars?

Here’s a beautiful Tokyo Disneyland Guide book from August 1985. This guide is done in the same style as the Anaheim Disneyland guides of the same period; it wouldn’t surprise me if they were produced by the same group of people at Disney. The entire guide is below, I especially like the big map and the Tomorrowland pages.

October 1966 - Disneyland Courtesy Guest Ticket Book

Wouldn’t it be fun to be a “Courtesy Guest” at Disneyland? They always seem to get free tickets!!!! This 5 Adventure Courtesy Guest ticket book is from October 1966.

This book is special in a few ways, first it was never used. The tickets are wonderful and printed on the somewhat rare “castle & star” paper as opposed to the usual "Globe Safety" paper. And the most special thing about this ticket book is that it’s the last one that has Walt’s stylized signature on the Welcome sheet. By early 1967 the message would be from “Walt Disney Productions

Magic Key tickets were magic indeed, good for use on any ride or attraction in Disneyland!

I could stare at this paper all day long, heck sometimes I do…

A somewhat abbreviated attraction list. No “New Orleans Square” yet and the New Tomorrowland ’67 was just getting ready to be built so all the old attractions were closed.

This post needs some color, from the November 1966 issue of The Disney World. Sorry to bring the holiday's to you so soon, but it was the closest I could get to October 1966.

“Bulldozers end career of parks old Ad, New Building takes over”

Come back on Bonus Sunday for the entire November 1966 issue of The Disney World.

1958 Disneyland Flyer 1958 and Tickets

This 1958 Disneyland parking lot flyer is one of the larger flyer’s measuring in at 10” by 8 ½”. This flyer is in a similar style to the red (link) 1959 flyer or the blue (link) 1959 flyer.

Attention Grown-ups: You Too Can Have More Fun (and save money!) with Disneyland Ticket Books” Super deals, super line art! Check here (link) for look at a 1958 Jumbo 15 book from a previous post.

Great summer hours – Fantasy in the Sky every evening at 9 P.M.

Here are a couple of Big 10 ticket books from 1958, each is now a Big “1” ticket book.

These tickets are still crisp and pretty fade free, amazing for being 51 years old. I’ll use this “A” ticket for the Satellite-View of America.

Obviously I’m going to use this “B” ticket for the Viewliner, the big question is which one since there is only one “B” ticket left.

The back of the early ticket books have just the right amount of “fancy” and have held up as well as the tickets.

Additional tickets books, gift tickets, coupons that never expire and tinkerbell who could ask for more?

D23 EXPO

No vintage post today, I spent yesterday at the D23 Expo and had a super blogger dinner afterwards, then got home too late for Magazine Monday. The Expo was pretty fun, not a ton of stuff for the pure “Disneyland” fan, but plenty to do & see for the “Disney” fans. For a great report on the Disneyland aspect of the show, see Miceage (link).

The original Mr. Lincoln is in the “What’s new in the Parks & Resorts” exhibit. This exhibit was well done and Tony Baxter was hanging out in there for a while so it was cool to see him. If only I had the nerve to ask for his autograph!!!!

Tickets anyone?

The roof of the convention center has a nice view of the park… Boy does the Castle look small from way up there.

The new Tron light-cycle looks amazing, let’s hope the movie is amazing as well.

The highlight of the day was meeting several blog readers (Jack, John, Matt, Michael) and fellow bloggers Major Pepperidge (Gorilla’s Don’t Blog) and Matterhorn1959 (Stuff from the Park) – they were the Real celebrities at the Expo!
