Grad Nite - 1985

Are you ready to party like its 1985? Grad Nite ’85 looks almost like parody of the 1980’s! Let’s start of with the traditional program.

Squeaky clean 80’s fun. Lower right photo, dude on the left with that hat is too cool! Hey, I had a tie exactly like his, oh man, I still have it!

Those are some motley looking crews!

No autographs or Grad Nite photo – so lonely…

Lot’s of Southland schools attending this special night. I think there was a Grad Nite last night and another one Today as the park closes at 9:00pm, three hours early!

The dress on the cover girl for this gate flyer matches the colors on the horse! Coincidence or “Disney Magic”?

Call me boring, but I’d be parked with a tall cup of ice cold Coke listening to the Coke Corner Pianist (in fact, that’s what I did at lunch today!).

Does anyone else smell hair gel, mousse and excessive eye liner?

This brochure was the “Pre-Grad Nite” handout. Does anyone remember Hit Radio “KKHR” 93FM, I sure don’t!

At 18 I actually did want a new (1983) Cadillac, but I was somewhat alone among my peers. Maybe they should have put the Firebird photo in this brochure instead.

Let’s play a game, shout out when you become disqualified; Denim Outfits, Turtlenecks, Jackets with organizational names, jackets without lapels, zipper jackets, windbreakers, bolo ties (I know that's you!), hiking boots (darn – I’m out), or tennis shoes.

Chaperone tickets are not to be used by Graduate or Graduate’s Guest.

I’m going in with my hiking boots on, maybe they won’t notice!

Disneyland's "Town Square" - January 7, 1962

Here's a great vintage look at Disneyland's "Town Square" in the this January 7, 1962 press photo. You can download a higher resolution scan here (link). Good luck trying to read that sign near the firehouse, I scanned it at 4800dpi and it wasn't any better (zoom-in link - 28mb)

The back side of these old press photos are always fun. "Sun Times" is the Chicago-Sun-Times, part of "Field Enterprises, Inc."

Grad Nite - 1977

The Grad from 1977 that held this ticket was insanely lucky; their Grad Nite was on the opening day of Space Mountain! May 27, 1977 was the official grand opening of Space Mountain, as if that wasn’t enough; Disneyland had Grad Nite activity's that day too!

Major, I’m sorry but you can’t wear your turtleneck with sports coat tonight, even with your distinguished pipe.

There's a certain blogger out there (he has some stuff from the park) that just happens to have the Grad Nite 1977 Program - maybe if we ask nice he'll scan it for us... Pretty Please...

Live Steam April 1987 - Popular Mechanics October 1971

Welcome to Magazine Monday. Today’s magazine features Walt Disney World related articles. And since Walt Disney World isn’t exactly Disneyland you get two magazines in one post.

Up first it’s Live Steam from April 1987.

This detailed four page article has a lot of information that was “new to me”.

This article of from Popular Mechanics October 1971 issue. I’ve only got the article, but you can view the entire issue on Google Books here (link). Disney was “Green” decades before it was cool!

Grad Nite - 1973

It’s time for Grad Nite ’73 at Disneyland! This June 12, 1973 ticket is printed on silvery paper with a neat two-tone green overlay, it feels substantial and worth every penny of the $9.00 price. The “Grad Nite ’73 Admit One” type style epitomizes the early 1970’s.

Well darn, I can’t go since my turtleneck with sandals outfit won’t get me thru the main gate. It’s interesting to note that “Safe Drugs” are apparently allowed in Disneyland? And please, hold your own ticket!

I don’t have the 1973 Grad Nite program (let me know if you’ve got one!) so here’s the cover to the Spring 1973 Disneyland Guidebook. It looks like someone was doing a little “ticket accounting” at the top.

The finality of crossing out an attraction – “done”, what’s next!

This Spring guide was effective April 11 1973 to June 15, 1973. You can view the entire Summer 1973 Disneyland Guide on a previous post here (link).

Come back on Bonus Sunday for the entire Spring 1973 Guide.

No Strings Attached - A tool in guest satisfaction

Let’s take a look at a “tool in guest satisfaction”. This “No Strings Attached” certificate was given to guests that had “issues”. Undated, but includes Disney’S California Adventure so it must be from 2001 or later.

Concern” that’s a nice way of saying complaint! So I wonder what level of complaints (and related “issues”) get you a priority entrance and what complaints only get you a soda? Hey, I just need “Elizabeth’s” extension number and department then I can complete this little form! I think I’ll use it on Superstar Limo, there’s always a massive line for that one!
