A Special Party at Disneyland - April 26, 1980

Bourns Inc. (maker of fine electrical components) had a "Special Party" at Disneyland on April 26, 1980. What made it "Special" was the unlimited ticket and sharing the park from 8:30pm to 1:30am with other fine corporations and their "Special Parties". I prefer "Private Parties" at Disneyland.

Free parking and Lawyer stuff.

How about a delayed Magazine Monday? How about we break the "if its got a 19 in the front part of the year its vintage" rule? From November 2003 its Los Angeles Magazine, the magazine for people who can afford Rolexs and Diamonds and fancy sports clubs! Ms. Stone strikes an interesting pose on the cover.

An interesting article told as told by John Hench. Mostly recycled stories but at age 95 at the time, what else have you got left to say?

If you've never been to the Getty Museum its well worth the trip.

Foresters Nite at Disneyland - September 26, 1971

It’s September 26, 1971 so hang on to your shriners hats, its “Foresters Nite” at Disneyland. Hey now, form a single file line, no cutting!

“Sponsored by the Independent Order of Foresters” I’ve never even heard of this group, have you?

“The Independent Order of Foresters is one of the world’s oldest and largest fraternal benefit societies with over one million members. The IOF Foresters is international in scope with the majority of its members located in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. The IOF Foresters sells a wide range of life insurance, and annuity products.” (source link)

I like how these tickets are like shaped like a tag, too bad someone yanked the string out of these one! Interesting Logo…

The back side of a special event ticket. “The Foresters wish to inform you all sales are final”… “Should any excess monies result from this event, they will be retained by the Foresters for its service program” Nice, I didn’t realize these special events could be profitable for the Company or Organization holding it.

And just because it’s so much fun and I can’t resist, here are more of this weekends special bonus of the newspaper supplement for Disneyland Summer 1959.

Check out the Hills Bros. Coffee House photo. Ok, I want that fantastic coffee pot, those large and sturdy mugs, those carnation creamer cups are to die for, that menu is a must have, and even the coffee looks great!

Nesbitt’s and Frito the Kid on the same page, wow, who knew they would become so rare and obscure. for a bag of Fritos!

Loving this artwork…

More Fritos. This time it’s Casa de Fritos! Is that Jerry Lee Lewis on the far right???

Come back tomorrow for the entire supplement.

VIP Party at Disneyland - September 25, 1983 & Disneyland '59

From September 25, 1983, it’s a VIP Party at Disneyland!

Since the above ticket is a little lack-luster and has very little color and since I am in a 1959 mood, here’s a peek at this weekends post.

From the Los Angeles Times of June 14, 1959, this is a great advertising supplement for “Disneyland 59”.

Amazing artwork like this is in about half of the supplement, the rest is full of super color photos.

I sure like the Swift Plantation House in this drawing,

The back page is dedicated to the wonderful ticket books! The all new “E” ticket is making its first appearance. “Big 10” or the “Jumbo 15” ticket book, go for the Jumbo 15!

Check back this weekend for the entire supplement in high resolution.

NALU Night at Disneyland - September 24, 1975

It’s NALU Night at Disneyland! Please contain your excitement…

This ticket is from September 24, 1975 and is "in conjunction with the 1975 Meeting of the National Association of Life Underwriters." Almost sounds like they should be wearing Shriners Hats?

Free parking included, these folks knew how to go first class!

The cover from the Fall/Winter 1975/76 Disneyland Guide.

The “Entertainment Calendar", fun times.

Family Fun Night at Disneyland - September 22, 1967

System Development Corporation has its Family Fun Night at Disneyland Forty-one year ago today on September 22, 1967. I believe this is the same System Development Corporation that according to Wikipedia "was arguably the world's first computer software company." (Link)

Also from 1967 (although from early 1967) here is the cover the Vacationland for Winter/Spring 1967. I sure to dig that artwork.

This is the "center-fold" of the Vacationland magazine. Comeback this Bonus Sunday for the complete issue, it's a super one!

News From Disneyland - 1971

News from Disneyland! It’s time for Dixieland and All that Jazz! This press release from September 1971 details the 12th annual “Dixieland and All that Jazz” and its six night celebration.

Here is the press guest sticker, it was never used and still looks like it has plenty of that industrial sticky stuff under the peel-away parts on the back.

The description sheet for the press photo of the Mark Twain in full “Dixieland and All that Jazz” get up.

What the heck is strapped to the front of the Mark Twain, bails of hay? And look just to the right of the hay stacks, is that a person wearing a hood or is their back to us? Weird…

Summary of the press event for September 6th, 1971.

Four pages of details, Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Wonder and tons more, wow, what a stellar event!

If you’re still yearning for 1971, check out a couple of my prior posts.

News From Disneyland - 1991

It’s good to be back to blogging, that work stuff is for the birds!

Disneyland ’91 Information – The Best Ways To See Disneyland” A three page “News from Disneyland” press release. Annual Passport was $180.00, it’s actually gone up less percentage-wise than the one day pass.

The cover of the 1991 Disneyland Souvenir Guide celebrating with the Disney Afternoon Live gang.

A fun map from 1991. Wow, I never would have thought I'd be longing for the Disneyland of 1991, but I am…. HEY wait, what’s in the America Sings building, huh, nothing?

More about the Disney Afternoon Live promotional tie-in with Disneyland. I remember this promotion at the park, it seemed kind of gimmicky at the time, it still does.

Come back on Bonus Sunday for the entire guide plus a Disney Afternoon Live Bonus!

Thursday, April 10, 2008

It was 20 years ago today...

April 10th 1988, America Sings sang its last song. I did a post back in February (link) showing a press pass and a grainy video of the attraction. I have since found a much nicer video on YouTube. I rode Splash Mountain on my last visit just to see all the animals from America Sings, ok, that last drop was a blast too!!!

This was filmed on the last day, April 10, 1988. Notice one of the geese is missing in the first two scenes (there are supposed to be four in each scene). I hear they “loaned” them out to Star Tours but never got them back! (YouTube Link – part 1) - (YouTube Link – part 2).

Here is the cover to the Summer 1974 Guide Book. Yes I posted this cover before, but check back this Sunday for the entire guide.

Some stock photo’s I cobbled together from the big souvenir books. They didn’t devote very much space in the books for America Sings, not even half a page

WOW – Check out this whole page photo from an early 80’s souvenir book! THIS is Disneyland…

Tomorrow? Rumor has it that “It’s Back" - Here’s a sneak preview:
