Disneyland Ticket Flyer - June 1960

Important” Here’s a great Disneyland (parking lot?) flyer from June 1960. This flyer is filled with the tons of details about the tickets books, the number of each lettered tickets they included and the 43 exciting adventures you can chose to enjoy.

Most of these “Important” flyers are small, tri-fold shirt pocket size on basic 20 pound paper. This 1960 flyer is huge, measuring 15 ¾” by 10” when fully open. It’s also on thick coated paper sort of like a birthday card.

Here’s closeup of the inside sections.

Who doesn’t love those little attraction drawings?

The inside back page is a hoot, it’s a “Special Message for Adults”. I wonder what qualifies an attraction as having “Adult Appeal”?

The back panel was blank except for this code. The date is pretty obvious, and I believe the 135M is for 135,000 copies.

How about a set of tickets to go with the flyer? Keen eyes will notice the “B” ticket is from June 1959 and does not completely match the flyer, the rest are June 1960. I can’t find a June 1960 “B” ticket, if anyone has one, please send me a scan.

Goin' Quacker's This Summer at Disneyland - 1984

It time for “Goin’ Quackers! This Summer at DisneylandJuly 1, thru July 7, 1984. It’s Donald’s 50th Birthday and Disneyland is throwing a huge celebration.

Neato surprise party with; cake, beverages, a hat and a button! Oh wait, it’s $1.50, still sounds like bargain, but shouldn’t the Mouse be taking care of the tab?

Lots-o-entertainment.

Donald snuck into Magic Journeys! I never saw this show, I thought it was on of those “red & blue glasses” 3D movies that gives me a headache. Come to think of it, Honey I Shrunk the Audience gave me a bad headache, but it wasn’t the 3D effect’s fault. (Someone at Disney owes me 15 minutes of my life for actually sitting thru that show)

The back has some glue from someone’s scrap book. Ah those cherished memories all nicely placed in a scrap book, only later to be torn out and sold piece by piece on EBay.

The cover of Your Souvenir Guide to Disneyland 1984. This is the second edition of the Guide for that year; the first edition had a nice photo of the castle on the front. This edition is obviously for Donald’s Birth Celebration.

The map. Notice the date code at the bottom right, 4/84 of course for April 1984. See the 2.5 next to it? I think this number represents the print count, in this case it 2.5 Million. It’s just a guess, but it makes sense. Comeback on Bonus Sunday for the entire guide.

Disneyland - 1955 Bank of America

Most Disneyland fans and collectors have seen this 1955 Bank of America Disneyland Guide. It’s a great piece of original opening year history with some super neat graphics. I am posting this for a reason as you'll see down below.

There are actually two versions of this guide, this would be version 1. The second version is slightly larger and the back page has the “550” branches slashed out in red and changed to “Now more than 600 branches!” See both compared on this great website: finddisney.com

When you open the first part you see the Disneyland Branch.

Fully open you get this big map of the park with all its UPT concessions’ goodness. The second version has a smaller map but with a large colorful boarder, buy one on Bay now (link). I like the art work better on this one.

The backside. What, only 550 branches?

This is the section you see when you unfold the brochure half way. I have looked at these Money Orders for years wondering if there are any out there. I don’t think they offered these for very long, I have not seen them in any other printed materials. Look at the $10 money order, the “Steam Boat” is a side wheeler!

Well, now I have seen one!!! It’s on eBay right now, $99 opening bid (Link to item #300223636761). It looks better in the picture than in the guide. I sorta/kinda want it. I wonder what it will sell for?

I suppose posting this auction here on the blog might increase its price. Believe it or not, this blog gets several hundred unique hits a day (surprises the @#$& out of me too). So IF one of you out there gets this great item, could you please send me a scan? 1200 DPI TIFF, front and back would be swell, thanks!

Disneyland Flyer Comparisons - Part 1

How about some flyer comparisons? There must be some psychological reason some people love “comparisons”. I know whenever I see a “Before & After” post on a blog I start to drool. The comparisons are usually pictures, but it works for paper things too.

Today let’s look at two great flyers from Disneyland’s early days. Although these are different sizes, they share the same format and a lot of the same text.

Neither is dated, but the first this one appears to be from 1957 or near there. I see the “House of the Future” but no "Viewliner" or "Columbia" mentions. High resolution file here: (frontside-link) (backside-link).

Again not dated, 1959? Maybe 1960? This version is smaller, but still fun. High resolution file here: (frontside-link) (backside-link).

Tomorrow; More Flyer Comparisons!
