1965 INA Guide Book - The Complete Post

As promised, here is the complete "Your Guide to Disneyland another INA Service" booklet. Though not dated, it appears to be from late 1965. There is mention of the park hours for December/January and mention of a "Gala" New Years Eve Party. "The world's biggest New Year's Eve Party as Disneyland visitors welcome in 1966 with noisemakers, hats and a midnite fireworks show". (see page 25)

Take this with you as we tour the INA Guide, it's a June 1965 Ticket book. I was generous and gave you the 15 Adventure Book, but you have 40+ attractions available. "True rewards await those choose wisely"...

Now for the Guide. If you have time, read a few pages and submerse yourself in the Disneyland of the past. There is an amazing amount of detail and information in these INA little books (6 7/8" x 4"). If you have a lot of time, read the whole thing, I have, many times....

Wow, that was cool wasn't it? Did you check out the coming attractions on page 26? Neat stuff.

Tomorrow starts the "E" Ticket series, I think it may be more than 4 parts, as I want to closely examine the famous "E" ticket. Also, mid-week I'll review the "replica" 1959 Ticket book that comes with the new Disneyland Secrets DVD. (I love this replica, it's almost perfect, if they can do this, the People Mover better be next!) And the DVD is Unbelievable, get it if you haven't already!

Club 33 Ticket? And related items

A few years back I won an auction on EBay that had no photo's (always risky), it just said "Club 33 Ticket and souvenirs". It went out for just few bucks and I'm not sure what to make of this ticket?

(Start the violin music here) Since I have never been to Club 33 I wouldn't know what a ticket to the Magic Place looks like. Therefore, if someone who has been to the Club and knows what this ticket is for, or when it is from, please let me know.

Not much detail, the back is blank. It's a big ticket at 7" x 3 1/2. It has no date stamp, do you think it's still valid? And valid for what exactly?? Neat Castle silhouette.

Maybe these Napkins can help date this stuff, I'm guessing it's not very old.

And some plastic goodies and matches! Can you smoke as well as drink in Club 33?

Something extra here, just cause it seems to go with the Club's location. This is a 3D postcard from October 1969, large also at around 6" 1/2 x 5". The 3D effect is odd, a little different than the typical 3D photo's I've seen before from this era. The scan came out OK, sorry, I am not a scan master.

Back side. It doesn't sound like Pauline is having a great time at "this place"... Oh man, Postage Due 1 Cent!!!!

Last, and since I am totally off on a non-ticket related tangent, here is a neato little bag from New Orleans Square, late 60's I would guess. It has the slick foil texture on the outside and paper on the inside, like the good old style of wrapping paper.

Sunday, check for the 1965 INA Guide book post....

The "D" Ticket - Part 4 the 1970's

I hope you like "D" Tickets, because there's a whole slew of them for this final part of the "D" Ticket series.

The only difference from this May 1971 "D" ticket compared to yesterday's May 1970 "D" ticket is a renaming of an attraction. The "Indian War Canoes" are now "Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes". While obviously an early attempt at PC, the new name at least makes sense and fits with Frontierland, however, the Canoes won't stay in Frontierland for long.

March 1973 finds Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes in a new land, Bear Country! Did they actually moved the loading area at this time? Anyone know?

Last of the larger size tickets, from April 1973. No changes, I just like it....

First of the smaller tickets from June 1974. They reordered the attractions in Tomorrowland, I have no idea why, it's the same rides! The Mine Train thru Nature's Wonderland has arrived on the "D" ticket back from a few years stay on the "E" ticket.

June 1976 finds three attraction name changes. "Flight to the Moon" is now "Mission to Mars", the moon is so yesterday! "Tom Sawyer Island Rafts" is now "Rafts to Tom Sawyer Island" Why? And the "Tomorrowland Jets" are now the "Rocket Jets" that one sounds cooler, why didn't they do that in 1967?

And notice the People Mover is missing, it's gone from the attraction list in the back of the ticket book too. I bet it's closed due to the construction of Space Mountain! Also, sadly this is the last appearance on a ticket of the Mine Train thru Nature's Wonderland, RIP...

America's Sings joins this June 1977 "D" ticket and the People Mover is back.

How did this get in my pocket? Let's try and use this May 1978 Knott's "D" ticket at Disneyland, think they'll notice? Funfact: Knott's lettered tickets are valued in the reverse order from Disneyland's and Knott's never had and "E" ticket. This "D" ticket is for Knott's least expensive attractions.

Last, from September 1980, heading into winter it seems that the Columbia and the Canoes are both missing. I think they only ran these on nice days and weekends therefore the didn't want them listed on the tickets as not to disappoint the guests?

Oh boy, I sure do love reviewing these tickets. And thank you so much for your nice comments.

This weekend; Saturday is a mystery and Sunday is the 1965 INA Guide full post blowout.

Next week... (drum roll please) The "E" Ticket Series!

The "D" Ticket - Part 3 the late 1960's

I think I've come to really like the "Castle Paper", this May 1967 "D" ticket really shows the neat Castle and Star Watermarks. The SF & D RR Trains have found there way back on the "D" ticket after hanging out on the "E" ticket for 7 years. The "New Tomorrowland 67" has the All new People Mover and the updated "Flight to the Moon" (minus the big TWA/Douglas Rocket out front). Fantasyland's dark rides have moved down the block to the "C" ticket, Storybook Land gets to stay. And the Mine Train thru Nature's Wonderland is now on the "D" having moved down from "E" ticket.

May 1969 has the Tomorrowland Jets back. The Sailing Ship Columbia and the Mark Twain are gone from the "D" ticket, having moved UP to the "E" Ticket in 1968. You'll see on the next ticket, they both return to the "D" ticket. Why do you suppose they were moved up to the "E" ticket for just two years?

Notice the price increase, it's now 70 cents, inflation has now hit Disneyland on this May 1970 "D" ticket! The Sailing Ship Columbia and the Mark Twain are back from there brief appearance on the "E" ticket. Also, note the Frontierland Railroad station is now in "New Orleans Square". The Mine Train is gone, back on the "E" for a couple more years, we'll see it again soon on the "D" ticket.

And just because this post needs some color, here is a nice cover to the Summer 1967 Guide book, supplied courtesy of INA.

You're A Winner! Save this Coupon

Splash Mountain opened at Disneyland on July 17, 1989, with soft openings beginning June 19, 1989.

Based on the 1946 movie "Song of the South". Yes, that often played and well known Disney Movie? I've never seen it, I think my mom might have seen it. I don't know anyone my age (42) or younger who has seen this movie. Why did they base a 75 million dollar ride on a movie practically no one has seen?

I'm not a huge fan of "wet" rides, the idea of walking around Disneyland all day in wet socks and soaking underwear sounds dreadful! But this "wet" ride is very well done, and I get a chance to see my buddies from America Sings.

Although not dated, the back of the ticket indicates the lower section is good from February 19, 1989 so I am guessing it was printed around that time.

This ticket is interesting. The lower section is good from February 19th, 1989 and expires June 9, 1989, a couple weeks before the soft opening. And the upper section is good until December 22, 1989. This way you could go to the park while it was being built, then return after it was completed.

How did you win one of these? I have no idea, does any one know? Since this is a lower serial number and it's stamped void, I am not even sure the promotion ever happened?

This ticket is BIG, it measures 9" x 5/8th" and it's thick card stock, nice and glossy.

The rules on the back are pretty simple - Notice the large water mark "complimentary".

I took this picture May 9th, 2007, just as the latest refurb was being finished. These plastic dummy's got to ride Splash all day long!

The "D" Ticket - Part 2 the early 1960's

June 1960 finds the "D" with some significant changes. Added to the "D" ticket and down from a brief appearance on the Original 1959 "E" ticket is; Mark Twain Steamboat, Sailing Ship Columbia and Tom Sawyer Island Rafts ("closes at dusk"). Tomorrowland Autopia was moved from this "D" ticket down to the "C" ticket. And the Astro-jet was kicked down to the "B" ticket, poor thing!

This next one is the kind of stuff that keeps me awake at night. From October 1962, this "D" ticket is missing a couple little things, namely the Sailing Ship Columbia and Tom Sawyer Island Rafts. But they didn't go to another lettered ticket, they are just gone? My only guess is that since these were printed in October, those two attractions were closed for the winter. Or was the Columbia getting refurbished for the "bellow deck museum"? Cool stuff...

Ah, summer time, June 1963, the Columbia and Tom Sawyer's Rafts are back, life is grand! And with a special ticket price of only 27 cents, could it get any better??? It does get better, see the next scan after this one.

The June 1963 ticket above came from this book. I need to do more research on these, but the 20 adventures in Disneyland "Special Guest" books must be rare, I only have a couple in my collection.

The only tickets left in this book were 4 "D" tickets. Ok, I did it, I tore the above ticket out of this book. That's right, I held the left side firmly, then with my right hand I gave it a firm but gentle tug and it snapped right out, just like it was 1963, the perforation was clean and straight.... I think I'll use it for the Mark Twain Steamboat, I want to see the burning cabin.

And from 1965, this is one of the earliest little Guide books of this style that I have. This little guy is in mint condition, and so much fun to read.

Here is the "Rides and Attractions" breakdown by ticket type. I love these little drawings.

If anyone wants the full scan of the guide book let me know, maybe I can post the whole thing on the weekend.

Tomorrow we'll take the customary mid-week break from the series and do something a little different.....

The "D" Ticket - Part 1 the 1950's

"How was that trip on the space shuttle?", "It was a "D" ticket ride!" Well, it could have happened that way. For a few years in the late 1950's, the "D" Ticket was the top of the line ticket at Disneyland. The first tickets sold in books in 1955 were just ABC (well, technically as we learned in the "A" series posts, the very first tickets sold in books had no letters at all).

Since so many new attractions were already being added by the summer of 1956, in the second half of that year the ticket book letters were increased to include the "D" ticket. The "D" ticket would remain Top Dog only until June of 1959.

Here is the first "D" ticket it's from late 1956. (scan courtesy of www. keeline.com, I wish I had this ticket!!!) Surprisingly, there are Seven attractions on this ticket that are still at Disneyland today. Lots of "Rainbow" stuff here, too much fun. Check out this YouTube Video, make sure and see part two also.

Now for some JUMBO fun! This "D" ticket is from late 1957, looks like not much changed in just one year. However, notice the SF&D in Frontierland isn't the "SF&D Freight Train" anymore, it's the "SF&D Railroad Trains" now... I guess people really didn't like riding around like cattle. I personally would have loved to ride in one of the fully open cars, can you imagine the slides you could have taken from there!!!

By late 1958 we see the addition of the Tomorrowland SF&D Railroad station, and the Sailing Ship Columbia has joined the Rivers of America. This ticket actually has Nine attractions still operating at Disneyland! I guess when I get sad about the People Mover or America Sings being gone, I should look on the bright side, all these great attractions are still there to enjoy!

Sorry for this next blurry image (it's from http://www.keeline.com/, thank you keeline, at least you have something for me to show, much appreciation!).. This is a June 1959 "D" Ticket. Since the "E" Ticket was introduced at this this time, there was a major realignment of the attractions on the lettered tickets. Almost everything on the 1958 "C" ticket ended up on this 1959 "D" ticket (no longer the Top Dog) Several of these attractions will get downgraded to the "C" ticket in the early 1960's

Since we took a look at Knott's individual ride tickets yesterday, lets look at one of Disneylands early individual ride tickets. I don't have a date on this, but I am sure it's from the first couple years the park was open. Great art work, the Mark Twain looks ready to board. Cool low serial number....

Tomorrow we will take an in depth look at The "D" Ticket - Part 2 the early 1960's.
